Victorious Abia Warriors coach Bethel Orji has commended the team's goalkeeper, Ali Ishaku, for his heroic performances between the sticks, ensuring that his team defeated Kwara United in the 2024 President Federation Cup Round of 16. Ishaku's stellar saves were instrumental in the team’s progress, earning him accolades from both the coaching staff and fans.

Abia Warriors advanced into the quarter-finals of the competition following a pulsating penalty shootout win over Kwara United in Ikenne. The match showcased the resilience and determination of the team, with Ishaku's performance standing out as a key factor in their success. His ability to stay calm under pressure and make crucial saves during the shootout was vital for the Warriors’ advancement.

The round of 16 tie had ended 1-1 after regulation time, forcing the game into the nerve-wracking penalty shootout. The Pride of Abia had to rely on the lottery of penalty shootouts to overcome Kwara United 4-3. Ishaku’s heroics during the shootout, where he saved two penalties, were the defining moments of the match. His composure and skill ensured that the team held their nerve and secured the victory.

Coach Orji, speaking after the match, heaped praise on Ishaku. "That is a good performance. He was the man of the match. You can't take it away from him. It favours us on so many occasions. Let him keep it up," Orji said. His comments reflect the immense confidence the coaching staff has in Ishaku and acknowledge the crucial role he played in their triumph.

"In football, you can't play the same way you played in the other games. The pitch always affects us, especially when the sun is too much," Orji continued. His remarks highlighted the adaptability and resilience of the team. Despite the challenges posed by the playing conditions, the Warriors managed to adjust their game plan effectively, showcasing their tactical flexibility and mental toughness.

``We are elated to come back after the second half to handle things the way they ought to be," Orji added. The coach's satisfaction with the team's performance in the second half indicates their ability to regroup and strategize effectively during critical moments. This adaptability and determination were key factors in their victory and will be crucial as they move forward in the competition.

Abia Warriors will take on Sokoto United in the last eight after the latter dumped out Enyimba FC. The upcoming quarter-final match promises to be another challenging encounter, but with Ishaku’s confidence high and the team’s morale boosted by their recent victory, the Warriors are well-prepared. Their focus will be on maintaining their form and continuing to leverage their strengths to advance further in the President Federation Cup.
