2024 President Federation Cup: Heartland Queens outclass Golden Sun progress to round of 16

Heartland Queens FC kicked off their campaign in the 2024 President Federation Cup with an impressive display, outclassing non-League side Golden Sun 3-0 at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, Delta State.


The Owerri Babes have now secured their spot in the round of 16 of the President Federation Cup.


Heartland Queens' talisman, Mary Lucky, opened the scoring for the Owerri side in the first few minutes of the game, giving them an early lead.


This early goal only fueled the Owerri side's hunger for more goals, as they intensified their attacks and relentless pressure on the opponents' defense. The result was another goal, with the team's top scorer, Chinedu Chinaka, doubling the lead 15 minutes later, putting them comfortably ahead at 2-0.


Captain Chimebere Opara then capped off an impressive first half with a simple tap-in goal, extending their lead to 3-0.


The second half saw fewer scoring opportunities, as the Owerri players struggled to convert clear-cut chances despite dominating possession in the opponent's half. Goalkeeper Amarachi Atulayo had little to do throughout the match, as the action remained mostly in the opponents' half.


With this victory, Heartland Queens advance to the round of 16 of the President Federation Cup, where they will face topflight giants FC Robo Queens in the next stage.


Meanwhile, the Owerri side will soon travel to Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, to participate in the NWFL Premiership Super Six playoffs alongside Rivers Angels, Bayelsa Queens, Nasarawa Amazons, Confluence Queens, and Edo Queens. This tournament will determine the league champions and the representatives for the CAF Women's Champions League.
