The Sunshine Queens FC coach, Rafiu Oseni, was unequivocal about the need to reassess the team's performance despite the 3-1 victory over Green Foot FC to advance to the round of 16 of the 2024 President Federation Cup.

Oseni, after the first win, thanked God for the victory in his first competitive game with his new team.

He commended his players for adhering to the game plans, assuring that the team’s performance would improve as they progress in the competition.

He said: “I will continue to take my time to study the team. Sunshine Queens is a very good team. As soon as we get back to our base, we will work on some areas where we are lacking. There is going to be better improvement before our next game.

“I must confess, our opponents gave a good account of themselves. They are not pushovers at all. We edged them through experience, hard work, and the grace of God,” he stated.

Recall that Sunshine Stars had their first goal in the 9th minute as Ajibade Taiwo wasted no time in putting her side ahead after receiving a through pass from Bolaji Olamide.

Sunshine Queens continued their domination of the encounter at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City. They were unable to double their lead before the center referee signaled the end of the first half.

The hostility resumed in the second half with Sunshine Queens bossing the game from defense to the opposing final third.

The Akure Landladies' continued pressing paid off in the 50th minute as Bolaji Olamide was fouled inside the box for a penalty.

Sunshine Queens Captain, Suliyat Ajibade, stepped in to convert from the spot and made it 2-0 for Sunshine Queens in the 50th minute.

Green Foot FC were brought back into the match, having pulled one back in the 66th minute.

The 2015 Women Federation Cup Champions reacted swiftly with beautiful teamwork, only to rue the resulting missed goal chance.

Sunshine Queens shrugged off the missed chance, taking the game to their opponent, with Bolaji Olamide sealing the victory for Sunshine Queens with her 92nd-minute goal from Mistura Olamilekan's final pass.
