Admiralty FC playmaker, Ogbonna Jolly Egbuka, has declared that he and his colleagues at the Nigerian Navy-owned club will continue working hard until their last match in the Nationwide League One (NLO).
This comes as one of the contenders, Ojodu City FC, seems to have taken the lead on the heels of their unbeaten record in 8 matches in the ongoing matches at the Maracana 2 segment in the Lagos zone of the third-tier league.
Egbuka insists there is still a lot more to play for, and his side will not throw in the towel until the last whistle of the season.
Ahead of their eighth game in the NLO zonal contest, Admiralty FC is in fourth place with 12 points, while Roro FC is third with 13, Oomi is second with 14, and Ojodu leads the way with an astonishing 21 points.
However, Egbuka, who scored the lone goal in his side’s 1-1 draw with O.O.M.I on Sunday, insists that everyone in his club is eager to keep fighting for victories in their remaining matches, while he personally targets the top scorer’s prize.
Heading into their next game versus Okaka FC on Tuesday and then against fifth-placed BYT on Thursday, Egbuka looks back at Sunday’s draw and concludes that it was a wonderful game.
“Today was a beautiful outcome,” the youngster retorts, “both sides are actually good teams.
“The intensity of the game right from the beginning to the end was competitive. We were able to come out with a draw, and I believe it has made us stronger.
“By the special grace of God, we’ll come out victorious in our next game.”
He goes on to reveal his ambitions as a budding footballer, and, with his mind set on playing professionally abroad, Egbuka stresses that he must always keep fighting to achieve big things.
“Personally, as a footballer and for my career, I won’t stop giving my best in every match. The same spirit is in my teammates at Admiralty FC Nigerian Navy.
“Despite the fact that Ojodu are well ahead of us at the top of the table, and it is very true that they have already won the league, that does not stop me from continuing to fight and for us to keep putting in everything, even when we play against them.
“I set a target for myself that I am going to come out of this league as the highest goal scorer. I have five goals now in seven matches, and we are still looking forward to continuing to put pressure on the leading clubs,” Egbuka expatiates.
He concludes with a projection about his career at the club and confesses that he is not thinking of staying for too long with Admiralty.
Egbuka declares: “Every grassroots footballer aspires to go higher, especially in Europe. I won’t say I’ll end up in Admiralty.
“They don’t stop me from moving, going for trials, or aspiring for the Nigerian Premier League. I’m still fighting, and I don’t plan on ending up in Admiralty.”
