2024 Morocco: Uyo bubbles as 20 Super Eagles players train ahead of Libya clash

Posted : 09 October 2024

The camp of the Super Eagles is buzzing again as 20 out of the 22 players invited for the crucial double-header clash against Libya have reported to camp.

The Super Eagles commenced their preparations for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualification matches against Libya with their first training session on Tuesday evening.

Twenty players reported for duty, with interim coach Austin Eguavoen and his backroom staff leading the session.

Meanwhile, notable absentees include Sevilla forward Kelechi Iheanacho, Fenerbahçe winger Chidera Ejuke, and full-back Bright Osayi-Samuel.

The players in attendance included Ballon d'Or nominee Ademola Lookman, Fulham duo Alexander Iwobi and Calvin Bassey, Nottingham Forest's Ola Aina and Taiwo Awoniyi, and William Troost-Ekong.

The team is gearing up for crucial matches against Libya's Mediterranean Knights on October 11 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo and the reverse fixture on October 15 at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Benghazi.

Nigeria has made a strong start to the qualification campaign, garnering four points from their opening two games. Eguavoen's squad will aim to build on this momentum and secure vital wins against Libya.

With the trio of Iheanacho, Ejuke, and Osayi-Samuel still yet to report for international duty, Eguavoen will focus on integrating the available players and fine-tuning his strategy.

The Super Eagles' preparations will continue in the coming days, with the remaining players expected to join the camp soon.
