Kano Pillars FC have commenced their preparations for the upcoming 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League season with a goalless draw against Mighty Jets in their opening match of the Gusau/Ahlan preseason tournament at the New Jos Stadium. The match, which served as the first warm-up for Kano Pillars ahead of the new league season scheduled to kick off on August 31, 2024, saw both teams put up spirited performances.
Mighty Jets, the Nigeria National League (NNL) side, started the game on the strong foot, creating several scoring opportunities in the opening exchanges. However, their efforts were thwarted by the resolute defense of Kano Pillars, who ensured the scoreline remained level.
Kano Pillars, on their part, grew into the game as it progressed. The first real chance for Sai Masu Gida came in the 59th minute when Maidubuji unleashed a powerful shot from outside the box, narrowly missing the target. The attack signaled Kano Pillars' intent to break the deadlock, but they were met with stiff resistance from the Mighty Jets defense.
As the match neared its conclusion, Maidubuji once again came close to scoring. In the 85th minute, he forced the Mighty Jets goalkeeper into a fine save, with the ball being parried out for a corner kick. Despite their best efforts, Kano Pillars were unable to find the back of the net, and the match ended in a stalemate.
The four-time Nigerian champions will now shift their focus to their second group game in the ongoing Gusau/Ahlan preseason tournament. Kano Pillars will face Discovery Talent Academy of Kebbi State at the New Jos Stadium. As the team continues their preseason campaign, they will be looking to fine-tune their strategies and build momentum ahead of the new NPFL season.
