Lobi Stars continued their impressive form in the Gusau/Ahlan Pre-Season Tournament by securing a 1-0 victory over Discovery Talent Academy, based in Kebbi State.
The win marked the Yes Father Boys' second consecutive triumph in the tournament, earning them a total of 6 points and maintaining their unbeaten streak.
From the opening whistle, the match was a thrilling encounter, with Lobi Stars showcasing their dominance.
Despite several missed opportunities, the Pride of Benue controlled the game.
In the 12th minute, new signing Ossy Martins had a golden chance to put Lobi Stars ahead as he expertly anticipated a mistake by Discovery Talent Academy's goalkeeper, Shafiu Usman, who had strayed from his line. However, Martins’ effort narrowly missed as the ball sailed over the bar.
Lobi Stars continued to press, creating numerous chances but were unable to convert their opportunities, with goalkeeper Usman proving a stumbling block with a series of tremendous saves.
The first half, however, concluded with a goalless scoreline.
In the second half, Lobi Stars intensified their efforts, winning several corner kicks, free kicks, and throw-ins.
Their persistence paid off in the 77th minute when Stanley Oganbor scored from close range, providing the breakthrough the team had been seeking.
His goal was crucial in securing the three points and cementing Lobi Stars' position at the top of Group C.
With this victory, Lobi Stars remain unbeaten in the tournament, boasting a perfect record of two wins from two matches.
The Benue Pride will now face Kano Pillars in their final group game on Saturday, August 24, 2024, aiming to continue their strong performance and advance further in the tournament.
