Former Nigerian U-23 goalkeeper, Mohammed Galadima, emerged as an unlikely hero for Nasarawa United, propelling the side to the semi-final stage of the ongoing 3rd edition of the Gusau/Ahlan Pre-season Cup Tournament taking place in Jos, Plateau State.
After a tense and grueling goalless regulation time, both the Solid Miners and Corner Flag FC resorted to penalty shootouts.
In the resulting spot kicks, both sides converted three out of their first five attempts.
The game was then decided by sudden death, with United successfully converting both of their kicks, while Corner Flag missed one.
After conceding the first tiebreaker kick, Galadima proved crucial by denying the opponents from scoring their second and final kick. He then stepped forward to convert United's decisive kick, advancing the team to the last four of the competition, which they last won in 2019 in Kano State.
The Keana-born shot-stopper was awarded the Man-of-the-Match certificate by the tournament organizers for his heroics.
The Solid Miners will face Lobi Stars FC, who defeated Niger Tornadoes 1-0 in the other quarter-final match. The semi-final fixture will take place on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at 3:30 pm at the New Jos International Stadium.
The final of the competition is scheduled for Friday, August 30, 2024, at the same venue.
