The Technical Adviser of Wikki Tourists FC, Abdu Maikaba, has showered praise on his players for their outstanding performances at the just-concluded Gusau/Ahlan Preseason Competition 2024 held in Jos.
Reflecting on the final game between Wikki Tourists and Lobi Stars, the Wikki Tourists gaffer stated that his team deserved commendation.
“We have been together for barely two weeks after the last season’s break before coming for this championship, and look at what they achieved. If the tempo, character, and mentality are maintained, there is great hope for our quest to return to the Nigeria Premier League soon,” said Maikaba.
He promised to work on the identified loopholes, emphasizing that the essence of competing in the championship was to assess the strengths and weaknesses of the team ahead of the 2024/2025 league season kick-off.
Wikki Tourists gallantly lost in the final to Lobi Stars by 3-4 in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw at the end of regulation time.
The Bauchi Giant Elephant received a silver trophy and a cheque of five hundred thousand naira (N500,000) as a cash prize.
The Tourists have since returned to Bauchi and will resume training on Monday, 02/09/2024, at 7 a.m. at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium.
