Nasarawa United has secured a spot in the quarter-finals of the 3rd edition of the Gusau/Ahlan Pre-season Cup Football Competition by defeating Kano Selected FC 1-0 in a tense but entertaining second Group D match held at the New Jos International Stadium, Plateau State.
The Solid Miners' decisive goal was scored just seven minutes into the game by Simon Akpor.
The NPFL returnees missed several goal-scoring chances in the exciting encounter, with Terdoo Shimagande, Andrew Garba, and Davidson Fred all failing to add to the goal tally.
Later in the game, Kano Selected thought they had drawn level, but Samuel Mailabari missed a golden opportunity by ballooning his shot over the bar.
The Lafia-based side held on to their slim lead until the final whistle, securing a back-to-back win in Group D after their earlier 3-0 victory over Ajester FC two days ago. Simon Akpor earned the Man-of-the-Match award for his stellar performance with Nasarawa United.
Nasarawa United FC will now face the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), who replaced Kwara United, which failed to show up for the competition, on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at 10 o’clock in the morning. This match will serve as a formality for Coach Usman Adams' team.
Nasarawa United will compete against the runners-up from Group B in the quarter-final stage, with the date and time to be announced.
