Daniel Olarenwaju, coach of Enyimba International FC, has condemned the state of the Amoaogudu Abiriba pitch, the venue of the Federation Cup quarter-final match between his team and Ngwa United FC of Abiriba.
Enyimba defeated Ngwa United FC 1-0 in Abiriba on Tuesday to reach the semifinals of the ongoing state federation cup in Abia.
Olarenwaju, who complained about the condition of the pitch, said that his team had to play there for the love of the game.
“You cannot bring a club like Enyimba to play on this kind of pitch, and now two of my players are seriously injured.
“It is really crazy, but it is important that we honor this match for the love of the game, but this cannot happen in other states.
“You cannot take Rivers United, Kwara United, or any other Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) team to a pitch like this; it is barbaric.
“For Enyimba, it is all about winning, and that is what we represent, no matter where we are playing, and this is the only thing I told the players,” he said.
The coach said that the players were trained to play each match and win before they could talk about the condition of the pitch, which is all that matters.
“I wish our next match will not be played on this kind of pitch so that fans can be entertained,” Olarenwaju said.
