2024 BOWFT: Nasarawa Amazons pummel Conference Queens

Nasarawa Amazons FC, at the ongoing 2024 Betsy Obaseki Women’s Football Tournament (BOWFT), thrashed a Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) Premiership side, Confluence Queens, 4-0 in the first Group C game in Benin.


The game, played at the University of Benin Sports Stadium, saw Nasarawa Amazons dominate from the blast of the referee's whistle.


Captain Mathias Josephine put Nasarawa Amazons in front in the 18th minute with a great finish.


The Lafia-based side pressed on for more goals, and in no time, Akekekwei Janet doubled the Lafia Landladies' lead in the 30th minute of the game.


In the second half, Nasarawa Amazons came out blazing from all cylinders, and in the 49th minute, Bello Amina extended the lead to 3-0.


With three goals down, Confluence Queens pressed to get a goal, but the defense of Nasarawa Amazons stood tall to dismantle the opposition's attack.


Akekekwei got her brace of the game by netting the Lafia Landladies' fourth goal.


The Technical Adviser of Nasarawa Amazons, Christopher Danjuma, described the result of the game as a work in progress, with hopes of improving for the league proper.


Skipper Mathias said the team is in Benin to win the BOWFT.


“We are here at the Betsy Obaseki Women’s Football Tournament and, by the grace of God, we hope to carry the trophy back to Lafia this time," she said.


Nasarawa Amazons will take on Abia Angels in their next Group C game on Thursday at 4 p.m.
