A former Super Eagles assistant coach, Imama Amapakabo, has been unveiled as the new head coach of Abia Warriors Football Club of Umuahia.
Coach Imama, as he is fondly called by admirers, embarks on his second sporting journey with the Pride of Umuahia, two years after he departed.
The new gaffer was unveiled by the club's chairman, Coach John Obuh, at the Abia Warriors Secretariat in Umuahia.
The 54-year-old tactician, born in Bayelsa State, takes over from Coach Bethel Oji, who served as interim head coach, while the latter resumes his position as assistant coach.
Coach Imama brings extensive experience, having won the Nigeria Premier Football League with Rangers International Football Club of Enugu in 2016.
He previously managed Abia Warriors from July 24, 2020, to August 1, 2022, and most recently coached Rwandan side Etoile de l’Est.
During his media briefing after his presentation, the coach called for patience and support from fans, especially during challenging times, as the club undergoes rebuilding.
"It is a new dawn. Most importantly, I appreciate the team for their achievements last season. But football is very unpredictable. In the next two years, if you ask who played in the finals of the President Federation Cup in 2024, people will only remember the winning team.
"Here in Nigeria, it's amusing how every team aims to win. Everyone believes they have an equal chance," he said.
He continued, "To the fans, I say, remain faithful to the team, support the team.
"There will be tough times because in every season, there's a period of decline before resurgence. During the decline, the team needs its supporters.
"It's not only during the good times that people celebrate; there will be challenges, especially now as we rebuild. It will take time for the players to adapt to my philosophy. During this period, there may be setbacks, and when they occur, let's maintain our faith."
In his remarks, Abia Warriors' sporting director, Mr. Emeka Ifejiagwa, speaking on behalf of the club chairman, expressed confidence in Coach Imama's abilities while emphasizing the club's expectation of high performance.
Coach Imama Amapakabo signed a two-year deal with Abia Warriors Football Club.
