2024/2025 NWFL Season: Edo Queens beef up squad with five new players

Posted : 12 March 2025

As part of efforts to strengthen Edo Queens Football Club of Benin ahead of the final stretch of the NWFL premiership race, the Edo State government has successfully completed the signing of five new players for the club.

The newly signed players are Anjor Mary, formerly of Bayelsa Queens, Rebecca Adegbemile, a former Delta Queens player, and Winifred Eyegboria, Vincent Precious, and Happiness Titus, all former players of Remo Stars Ladies FC.

The players, who had their first training session with Edo Queens yesterday at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, made a positive impact, displaying a high level of professionalism, signaling their readiness to make Edo State proud.

The five players have signed one-year contracts. This is the second transfer deal the Edo Queens management has completed for the 2024/25 season. They have all completed their medicals and are ready to make an impact.

Regarding the squad reinforcement, the General Manager of the team, Rollanson Odeh, commended the state government and the Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Desmond Enabule, for their massive support. He stated that it was necessary for Edo Queens to strengthen certain areas of the team due to the challenges ahead.

“Firstly, I want to appreciate His Excellency Senator Monday Okpebholo and members of his team for the opportunity given to us to serve the state.

"As you know, Edo Queens is already a household name in African women's football.

"As WAFU-B champions and NWFL defending champions, all eyes are on us. So, to withstand the challenges ahead, we needed to overhaul certain areas of the game because we know that a tough challenge lies ahead."

"But, despite that, we are ready and good to go. The players are training hard and are determined to win again.

"This is the last phase of the NWFL premiership, and our target is to go continental again. I know the technical crew is doing very well, and by the special grace of God, Edo Queens will retain the trophy.”

Speaking ahead of the final phase, the head coach, Moses Aduku, said: "For me, I think we are ready for the challenge.

“There’s no easy game; this is the final stage, and every team is aiming for the best. Edo Queens is a fantastic team, and we are happy to have brought in more experienced players to amplify the efforts of the others for a positive result in the end.

"Reinforcing the team was a good move, and I would like to thank the state government for their massive support.

"We are excited and ready to hit the ground running. To us in Edo Queens, every game is a battle, and we are ready to fight.”
