2024/2025 NWFL: Plateau United Queens stumble as Nasarawa Amazons showcase dominance in friendly

In a keenly contested friendly match at the New Zaria Road Stadium, Plateau United Queens hosted Nasarawa Amazons in the first leg of a back-to-back encounter held on November 1st, 2024.


The visitors demonstrated their prowess, clinching a 2-0 victory that left the home team battling against relentless opposition.

From the initial whistle, Nasarawa Amazons asserted their authority on the pitch, controlling possession and dictating the tempo of the game.


Plateau United Queens, not to be overshadowed, displayed resolute defense and tenacity, especially during the first half.


Deborah Okoroafor, Juliet Abwo, and Racheal came tantalizingly close to scoring through high-pressing maneuvers, with near misses in the 9th, 29th, and 38th minutes, respectively.


Despite their efforts, the first half concluded in a goalless draw, signaling a fiercely contested battle.


The second half saw both teams making strategic changes. Under the guidance of Nasarawa Amazons' head coach, Christopher Danjuma, who also leads Nigeria’s U-20 women’s team, the visitors capitalized on these adjustments.


In the 57th minute, Bello Aisha broke the stalemate, putting the Amazons ahead with a well-placed shot.


The pressure continued to mount, and in the 81st minute, Mosaku Bisola doubled their lead, solidifying Nasarawa Amazons’ advantage.


Despite her team's loss, Plateau United Queens' goalkeeper, Dorcas James, stood out with several crucial saves, preventing an even wider margin.


Her performance underscored the resilience of the Queens, who fought diligently against a formidable opponent.
