Heartland Queens will go into the season's restart with renewed confidence against the home side, Confluence Queens, in Wednesday's NWFL Premiership Matchday 8 clash at the Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU) Stadium in Anyigba, Kogi State.
Prior to Wednesday's showdown, the Owerri-based side convincingly overpowered Watersmeet with three unanswered goals on the final matchday of the first term in Owerri.
The start of the second stanza will mark the fourth meeting between both top-flight teams, with their past encounters evenly split—a win and a draw each.
Wednesday's matchup will intensify the rivalry as both teams seek stability in a season where they have struggled, in contrast to their impressive performances at this stage in the previous campaign.
The Owerri side secured their breakthrough on the final matchday of the first term, claiming their first win of the season at the expense of the Lokoja-based team. Meanwhile, Confluence Queens remain winless and are still searching for their first point of the season.
Buoyed by that victory, Heartland Queens' head coach, Obi Ogbala, will aim to build on the momentum with a second consecutive win against the hosts, Confluence Queens, on their adopted home ground in Anyigba.
The soft-spoken gaffer understands the need for more victories to improve his team’s position on the table and restore their chances of making a strong comeback.
Ogbala is likely to favor youth over experience in goal, with rising shot-stopper Amarachi Atulayo expected to feature. Defensive options will include dependable players like Oluomachi Onwere, Chisom Henry, Prisca Nwachukwu, Ezinne Wokocha, and Nnenna Williams. The midfield will likely feature Oluchi Okwara, Samson Faith, Chizoba Johnson, and young talent Endurance Omoraka.
For attacking duties, he will have choices among captain Chimebere Opara, Emmanuella James, Onyinyechi Kalu, two-goal heroine Monica Matthew, and Tosin Ogundeko.
The Owerri team currently sits sixth in the eight-team group with five points, trailing leaders Remo Stars Ladies by 14 points.
