Rivers Angels of Port Harcourt are set to face a tough test in this week’s fixture against FC Robo Queens of Lagos on Matchday 3 of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) season.
The fear of Robo Queens should now be the beginning of wisdom for Rivers Angels, as two in-form stars of the Lagos-based side, Opeyemi Ajakaye and Favour Nkwocha, say their squad will be in top form during the impending match.
Incidentally, both players scored the goals that helped Coach Emmanuel Osahon’s side come from behind to secure a 2-1 win against visiting Adamawa Queens of Yola on Wednesday in Lagos.
Nkwocha, who scored the 70th-minute equalizer after Yola had taken the lead in the 21st minute, declared: “I’m so happy to have equalized with our first goal. We are now focusing on winning our next game against Rivers Angels. We will do this by playing well and bringing out our best.”
Similar words were echoed by Ajakaye, whose 90th-minute stunner sealed straight victories for Robo Queens and ensured they earned six points from their first two matches of the NWFL’s new season.
“I’m so happy. I’m so happy to have scored the winning goal for my team. We will bring out our best and remain positive in the next away game,” Ajakaye pledged.
This should send waves of tension through The Garden City camp of Rivers Angels, as FC Robo had earlier won their first match of the season 5-1 away to Benue Queens of Makurdi.
