2024/2025 NWFL Match Day 11: Queens dare Angels in Oriental derby

All was square in the first meeting in Owerri, and the return fixture promises to be a straight fight to the finish when the neighboring oriental rivals, Abia Angels and Heartland Queens, clash in Wednesday's NWFL Premiership matchday 11 at the Umuahia Township Stadium in Umuahia, Abia State.


The first game in Owerri between the premier league teams ended in a frustrating goalless draw, thereby making the return a battle royale that can go either way, depending on how the coaches instruct their players on the field.


A lot of familiarity exists on both sides, from the coaches to the players, and these factors are surely going to play a decisive role in how the match unfolds. Abia Angels are fighting to steady their pursuit of their first-ever Super Six dream, which appears to be gradually slipping away, while the Owerri team, perhaps outright outsiders for the season's top spot, have significant pride to salvage, at least to ensure they finish the ongoing season strongly.


Ogbala has his attacking options well-prepared and will likely rely on his experienced regulars to execute the daunting task, especially the high performers from the past two matches.


The matchup is a derby and is surely going to live up to the bookmakers' expectations and predictions that the coaching decisions alone could single-handedly decide the match.


The Owerri side are sixth on the eight-team group's log with eight points, while the home team is in fourth place with 16 points. The Owerri team is 18 points behind the champions and leaders, Edo Queens.
