2024/2025 NWFL: Ekiti Queens FC recruits new players ahead of new season

The management of Ekiti Queens FC announced that it has recruited 14 players to strengthen its team ahead of the upcoming Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) season.


The team manager, Mrs. Mojisola Adekanye, disclosed this in Ado-Ekiti.

Adekanye said the new players were invited several months ago from various NWFL Championship teams and have since undergone a series of training sessions and friendly matches.


She mentioned that the club retained 15 existing players, while those who did not meet the required standard were released.


She added that 29 players are currently in camp for the 2024/25 NWFL season.


The team is funded by the Ekiti State government.


Reacting to the development, the Technical Advisor to the State Governor on Sports Development, Dr. Olusola Osetoba, stated that most of the new players are strikers.


Osetoba explained that this decision was essential to ensure that the team becomes formidable and competitive in the new season.


She commended Governor Biodun Oyebanji and his wife, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji, for their passion and support for sports.


Osetoba promised not to disappoint the government and the people of Ekiti, emphasizing the confidence placed in her and the club officials.


Similarly, the team’s new head coach, Jacob Vandi, stated that it is no longer business as usual, as the technical crew has worked extensively to ensure the team competes effectively.


“With the addition of new players, we are more than prepared for the upcoming league; we are fully ready for the task ahead,” Vandi said.


“NWFL is no child’s play. As premier league players, you must have the heart of a lion to succeed.


“Last season, the team struggled with scoring goals, but with the help of God and the addition of our newly signed players to strengthen our attack and midfield, Ekiti Queens FC will be a formidable force,” Vandi assured.
