2024/2025 NPFL transfer: Oluyole Warriors land Sunshine Stars' striker, Sodiq Ibrahim, on loan

Posted : 16 January 2025

In order to bolster their squad ahead of the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) second stanza and enhance their chances at continental football, Shooting Stars SC of Ibadan has announced the acquisition of Sunshine Stars FC’s dependable striker, Sodiq Ibrahim, on loan during the mid-season NPFL transfer window.

The towering striker is set for a new chapter as he joins Shooting Stars. Sodiq signed a loan deal with the Oluyole Warriors that will keep him with the team until the end of the 2024/2025 NPFL season.

Additionally, the General Manager of the club, Oladimeji Lawal, has assured fans that the club will secure a continental ticket by the end of the 2024/2025 NPFL season.

Lawal also commended the fans of the team for their exemplary conduct during the first stanza of the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

Fondly called "Kabongo," Lawal expressed his gratitude to the fans, noting that their good behavior during this period spared the team from incurring sanctions from the Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the league.

He highlighted that poor conduct, such as that exhibited by some other teams, has led to points and goals deductions. He cited the example of Nasarawa United Football Club, which was recently sanctioned by the IMC following an attack on Rivers United during a league match in Lafia, Nasarawa State.

The General Manager explained that such situations often place teams in a precarious position, forcing them to struggle to recover lost points and goals while also losing the comfort of playing home matches.

However, he promised fans of the Oluyole Warriors that the club would either win the league or finish in second or third place at worst, emphasizing that everyone at the club is fully committed to this goal.

“We want the fans to remain hopeful because our aim is to win the league for them or, at the very least, secure a continental ticket so the team can participate in either the CAF Champions League or the CAF Confederation Cup,” he stated.

“We have three pathways to achieve this: winning the league, finishing second, or securing victory in the FA Cup. We are working hard to accomplish one of these,” Kabongo explained further.

“Our fans have been very supportive and understanding, and we want to thank them for their good conduct. We urge them to maintain the same positive attitude by controlling their emotions, even when results don’t go their way,” the General Manager opined.

“We want them to understand that it’s not possible to win all the time or have things go your way in every match. However, we are determined to win the league or at least secure a continental ticket for them as a token of appreciation for their support and exemplary behavior,” he concluded.
