There are growing speculations in the camp of Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) giants, Kano Pillars, that they are set to announce the appointment of former Akwa United handler Deji Ayeni as the new Technical Adviser.
A source close to Sai Masu Gida reveals that Abdul Maikaba, who started the season as the Technical Adviser, was suspended indefinitely after a dispute with the club's management.
Apart from the committee set up to investigate Maikaba’s activities, former players Jangora Ahmed and Ahmed Yaro Yaro Garba were assigned to oversee Kano Pillars’ remaining fixtures in the league, while a new manager will be announced soon.
At the end of the 2023/2024 season, Kano Pillars finished a distant 11th on the table, having won 15, drawn seven, and lost 15 out of 38 matches, a result that leaves much to be desired.
The club management declared Maikaba's former position vacant and invited applications from suitable candidates to fill the vacancy.
One of the top club executives hinted to Varsportnow.blogspot.com that the committee investigating the former coach would submit its report on Thursday, with important announcements expected the same day.
According to him: "The state government had set up a committee to review the tenure of the former coach, and the report is expected on Thursday. This will guide management in making significant decisions ahead of the next season. Subsequently, there will be a world press conference."
"We are searching for a new Technical Adviser, and Deji Ayeni, who grew up in the ancient city of Kano and has played for several clubs, is one of the coaches who meet the criteria, having been named Coach of the Month in the Nigerian top-flight league."
"As a young and exciting coach, former Sunshine Stars, Akwa United, and Ekiti United manager Deji Ayeni, along with his agent Akin Maxwell, are already on their way to Kano for final discussions regarding the possibility of him becoming the new Sai Masu Gida handler."
