2024/2025 NPFL season: Edo confirms Greg Ikhenoba as Bendel Insurance FC head coach

Posted : 11 January 2025

The Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Desmond Amadin Enabulele, has confirmed Coach Greg Ikhenoba as the substantive Head Coach of Bendel Insurance Football Club of Benin. He also announced the appointment of Austin Iyamu as the Technical Director and Peter Obanor as the Team Manager of Bendel Insurance FC.

In a related development, the Edo State Sports Commission also announced the appointment of Coach Rollanson Aituairi Odeh as the General Manager of Edo Queens FC, among other strategic plans for the effective management of the two state-owned clubs.

Other appointments include Idemudia Osigbemen as the Scouting Coach for Insurance FC, while Anthony Ipogah takes on the role of Scouting Coach for Edo Queens. Additionally, Omoyemwen Adeyinka Afolabi has been named the Welfare Officer for Edo Queens.

Coach Greg Ikhenoba's confirmation as the substantive Head Coach of Bendel Insurance FC follows his impressive performance in guiding the team out of relegation after the resignation of his predecessor, Coach Monday Odigie, who previously held dual roles as Head Coach and Technical Director.

The appointment of Austin Iyamu fills the vacant position left by Coach Monday Odigie.

Following Edo Queens' outstanding performance in the 2023/24 NWFL Premiership and the CAF Women's Champions League, the Sports Commission Chairman has also renewed Coach Moses Aduku's contract as the Head Coach of Edo Queens. As a result, Moses Aduku has signed a two-year extension to remain with the team.

Enabulele tasked the newly appointed General Manager of Edo Queens, former Crown FC Manager Rollanson Aituairi Odeh, as well as Insurance FC’s new Technical Director, Austin Iyamu, and Team Manager, Peter Obanor, to bring their expertise and experience to bear in their roles. He emphasized that much is expected from them in driving the clubs' success.

He also called for synergy between the new appointees and other members of the teams to foster collaboration and ensure the overall development of the clubs.

Enabulele further noted that the new appointments were based on the appointees' professional track records in football.

Meanwhile, the Edo State Sports Commission has finalized plans to unveil the newly appointed coaches, team manager, and players of Bendel Insurance FC on Tuesday, January 14.

The unveiling ceremony is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. at the New Festival Hall, Government House, Benin City.
