2024/2025 NPFL season: Amokachi resigns from Lobi Stars' coaching crew

Posted : 18 February 2025

In the fallout of underwhelming results from the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), the Technical Adviser of Lobi Stars, Daniel Amokachi, has resigned from his position.

Former Super Eagles coach Daniel Amokachi tendered his resignation letter to the management of the Alia Boys on Monday.

With the resignation of the former Super Eagles star, Lobi Stars' Assistant Coach, Tar Akombo, will take charge of the team during Wednesday's crucial NPFL fixture against second-placed Shooting Stars in Ibadan.

Lobi Stars are rooted at the bottom of the 2024/2025 NPFL log with a paltry 22 points from 24 matches.

Amokachi announced his resignation in December 2024 before making a surprise comeback a few days later.

On January 27, Lobi Stars FC adopted the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi as their home ground for the remainder of the 2024/25 NPFL season following poor results at their previously adopted home, the Lafia Stadium.

For close to three years, Lobi Stars have continued to move from one place to another in search of an alternative home ground due to the prolonged renovation work on their traditional home ground, the Aper Aku Stadium in Makurdi.

Unfortunately, as the Benue State government and the contractor, Monimichelle Sport Facility Construction Company, continue to trade blame over the slow pace of renovation work on the stadium, Lobi Stars have remained homeless.

After a series of poor results at the Lafia Stadium, including a 0-1 loss to Rivers United in week 3, Lobi Stars relocated to ATB Stadium in hopes of halting their dwindling fortunes.

However, the Daniel Amokachi-led boys were stunned 0-1 in their first match in Bauchi after failing to respond to a first-half goal by Ifeanyi Anthony Ihemekwele, leading to their eleventh defeat of the season.

The teeming fans of the ‘Pride of Benue’ have continued to blame the club’s relegation battle on the absence of home support.

So far, Lobi Stars have not won any of their last five games, recording two draws and three losses, leaving the team at the rock bottom of the table.
