2024/2025 NPFL season: Abia Warriors' chairman commends Gov. Otti over support

Posted : 27 January 2025

The Chairman of the Umuahia-based Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) outfit, Abia Warriors FC, Coach John Sam Obuh, has explained the reason behind the Warriors' resurgence.

Obuh stated that the Umu Chineke Boys' rich vein of form in the ongoing 2024/2025 NPFL season is due to the adequate support received from Governor Alex Chioma Otti of Abia State.

The Umu Chineke have recorded three straight wins for the first time in their history, following a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Bayelsa United in Umuahia as the league resumed after the midterm break.

According to the former Nigeria U-17 and U-20 Head Coach, the unwavering support of Abia State’s number one citizen, Governor Otti, has been the driving force propelling the Warriors.

Speaking after the game against Bayelsa United at the Umuahia Township Stadium last Saturday, Coach Obuh was unequivocal in his assertion:

“Governor Otti has been supportive to us. Irrespective of whatever happens, he has been very, very supportive.

“His support has been inspiring us, and that is why we are where we are and doing what we are doing.”

The club supremo also took the opportunity to appeal to the club's teeming supporters for continued support and urged them to keep faith with the team as they navigate the challenges of the ongoing season.

“I still want to tell them to continue giving us their support—whether things are good or bad, their support is very important.

“I thank them for what they have done so far, but they need to do even more.”

On the victory over the Ladan Bosso-led Bayelsa United, Coach Obuh commended the Warriors for showing character as they secured all three points. The victory ensured they completed a double over the Prosperity Boys, having won by the same margin during the first leg in Yenagoa last month.
