It was a busy day in Kano for the home side, Kano Pillars, against the visiting Enyimba International FC of Aba, as the crowd was intimidating and the atmosphere set for a big clash.
The People's Elephant fought but lost a game they should have at least gotten a point from, given how they responded to Adam’s first goal.
Matches against Kano Pillars have always been tough. In the past seven encounters, the home side has always won, even though Enyimba had hoped they could change the narrative.
The team lost concentration in defense and paid dearly for it. This is where Eguma should come in, to find the right synergy and partnership in defense and ensure that he keeps it tight.
If Enyimba must concede, the other team should work for it. They would not want to give away cheap goals, as they have done in the past two games.
It was never going to be easy for them in Kano. Coming from a gruelling game in Cairo, then traveling to Kano for the match, would require a lot of strength and determination from the team.
Hopefully, the boys will take a day or two to rest before their game against Kwara United on Monday.
Normally, the boys should have rested, but duty calls. Despite the disappointing loss, there is still a ray of light at the end of the tunnel.
Before the home games in the second round, Eguma must make some vital changes in delicate areas to improve the team's fortunes. He will have to find a way to make his attack work and also focus on the fitness of some players, especially those returning from injury.
These players, alongside any new additions, will soon find their rhythm. When all the players are fit, the coach will have a luxury of choices, especially in attack. The fans will also hope to see the return of versatile midfielder Eze Ekwutuziam and the full recovery of Imoh Obot and Clinton Jephtah.
