2024/2025 NPFL mid season transfer: Heartland FC rejig squad with Omaka, Ekpo, seven others

Posted : 27 January 2025

Heartland FC has reinforced their squad with nine new players ahead of the second stanza of the ongoing 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.

The management stated that the players were carefully selected and added to the Naze Millionaires to ensure the club's performance in the second round is significantly better than the first, as the club aims to navigate the remainder of the season without any threat of relegation.

Top among the newly signed players are Anthony Omaka and Daniel Ekpo. Omaka, a former player of Sunshine Stars and Enyimba, is joining the Naze Millionaires from ASVO FC of Benin Republic, while Ekpo, a valued winger, has swapped Abia Warriors for the Owerri side.

Other signings include John Bassey (Bayelsa United), Kenneth Ache (Heartland Feeders), Stephen Ezeamaiwe (Bendel Insurance), Isaac Nassy (Doma United), Samuel Agu (Akwa United), Terdoo Shimagande (Nasarawa United), and Joel Okoro, also from Nasarawa United.

Speaking about the new acquisitions, Heartland FC’s Technical Manager, Emmanuel Amuneke, expressed confidence that the new players would hit the ground running and ensure that the confidence placed in them is reciprocated with solid and consistent performances.

Amuneke stated that the Owerri side will continue to grow stronger.

He also urged the people of Imo to continue supporting the team, even during challenging times.

“What we have done is bring in players who will help us achieve our goals. We have carefully selected these individuals to ensure our performance improves in the second round, and we call on the people of Imo to support us.”

“We have worked very hard to ensure that our performance improves in the second stanza, and we have no doubt that the second round will be favorable for us.”

Heartland will begin their second-round fixtures with a home clash against Lobi Stars in Owerri on Sunday, hoping to secure the maximum points after a goalless draw in Lafia in the reverse fixture played in late December last year.
