Heartland International FC on Sunday secured a much-needed relief as Peter Afolayan’s lone strike kept Remo Stars at 18 points, lifting the Naze Millionaires out of the relegation zone and easing the pressure on coach Emmanuel Amuneke.
With high tension surrounding the struggling Naze Millionaires, league title contenders Remo Stars cut off all avenues to prevent the hosts from scoring.
However, in the 71st minute, Peter Afolayan struck to put the hosts in the lead.
Before the goal, the visitors missed a clear opportunity in the 47th minute as Dela Akorli failed to convert a cross from Peter Onuoha, sending his attempt over the bar.
Remo Stars nearly leveled in the 73rd minute, but the Naze Millionaires’ goalkeeper made a fingertip save on a goal-bound shot, needing medical attention afterward.
