2024/2025 NPFL Match Day 8: Imama Amapakabo secures valuable win over Plateau United FC

Posted : 21 October 2024

League-winning coach Imama Amapakabo is now a happy man after securing a much-needed win over the visiting Plateau United FC in Aba, following a tumultuous start to the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League.

Recall that the Ochendo Boys secured a 3-1 victory over the Peace Boys in the NPFL Match Day 8 fixtures played at Umuahia Township Stadium in Aba.

The Peace Boys, coming off an inspiring home win against Remo Stars on Match Day 7 in Jos against the league leaders, had hoped for a decent away result in Aba.

However, their hope of rebuilding positive form on the road was partly dented by the loss to Bayelsa United in Yenagoa on Match Day 6. The journey of thousands of kilometers to and from Umuahia proved to be a test of resilience.

The warriors from the East have positively picked up at home following a two-nil loss to Remo Stars on Match Day 1, with two consecutive home wins, two draws, and a slight setback on the road with a loss to Nasarawa United on Match Day 7.

The tactical battle between former Rangers International of Enugu coach Imama Amapakabo and Mbwas Mangut certainly looked fierce, considering the similarities in their traditions.

The contest began fiercely as predicted, but slippery terrain on the pitch hampered certain moves for both sides.

Following sustained duels, Plateau United's Abubakar Adamu capitalized on a defensive slip to slot the ball past Abia Warriors' Ali Ishaku for the opener.

Just before halftime, two quick goals from Abia Warriors' Sunday Megwo and Ojonugwa Adejoh put the hosts in front.

The Peace Boys rallied to dominate and sought to level the score amidst Adamu Abubakar's relentless drives, plus a crucial penalty call that had the potential to change the complexion of the game. Harrison Ebah's delightful interventions in critical moments were noted, but an eventual third goal for the hosts dampened spirits in the Peace Boys' camp.

Kano Pillars remain the only home team that failed to win among six fixtures scheduled on Match Day 8 across the country, with four other fixtures set to be decided on Monday, October 21.

A home fixture for the Peace Boys against fourth-placed Sunshine Stars of Akure is next in Jos on Match Day 9.
