In yet another dominant performance, a resurgent Ikorodu City FC posted a 5-star display on Monday, defeating visiting Lobi Stars FC 4-2.
The 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) fixture took place at the iconic Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos.
The dominant display against the Alia Boys extended the Oga Boys' unbeaten streak to three matches.
The revival began on NPFL Match Day 6 when the Oga Boys defeated Bendel Insurance at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena.
The Lagos Boys then earned a crucial point away at Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri, against Heartland FC in a 1-1 draw on Match Day 7.
Upon returning to their base, the Oga Boys picked up where they left off, with goals flowing just 2 minutes into the first half.
Striker Salau Yusuf scored his first-ever NPFL goal following a slick combination of passes between Shola Adelani and skipper Waliu Ojetoye.
Seventeen minutes later, Emmanuel Solomon opened his NPFL goal account with a beautiful strike after receiving a precise corner pass from Harrison Austin.
Ikorodu City FC suffered a setback as Lobi Stars rallied back in the 50th minute, with Assurance Ifeanyi capitalizing on a defensive error to reduce the deficit to 2-1.
In the sixth minute of added time, Ifeanyi once again stepped up to level the score at 2-2 with a composed finish, sending both teams into the dressing room tied.
After tactical adjustments, Ikorodu City FC regained the lead in the 56th minute when a pinpoint cross from Harrison Austin was met with a brilliant header by Alade Solomon, making it 3-2.
Ikorodu City doubled their lead in the 58th minute when substitute and former Sporting Lagos FC player, Rivio Ayemwenre, scored a stunning curler to seal the win for the Oga Boys.
After the match, Harrison, who provided three assists, said, "Oh! Those dark days are over. We are not a pushover team; we want to prove ourselves more on the pitch now. We just needed some time to gel, and now we are on track."
Ikorodu City is now out of the relegation zone, sitting 17th on the NPFL log with eight points from eight matches, including two wins, two draws, and four losses.
