Sunshine Stars' technical adviser, Kennedy Boboye, has condemned the 'overgrown' pitch at Kwara Stadium, which affected the free flow of the ball during his team's loss to Kwara United in Ilorin.
Boboye, however, conceded that Kwara United were the better side in their 3-0 triumph.
In the Match Day 7 tie of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), Sunshine Stars Football Club of Akure were unable to perform as they had against Rangers International just a few days earlier.
"The pitch was part of the problem that affected our play; it’s not that we are not used to grass, but the main issue was that the grass was not cut and was poorly maintained.
"I don't know how a pitch like that was approved for games, and they failed to cut it before Match Day," he said enthusiastically.
"The field is overgrown, and the ball was not moving smoothly. In contrast, Kwara United were unperturbed as they are accustomed to the turf.
Alalade Wasiu scored in the 30th and 38th minutes for the Harmony Boys, giving them a two-goal lead in the first half.
The Owena Whales showed character after the goals, but their efforts were unsuccessful as Kwara United's goalkeeper denied them a chance to reduce the deficit.
Later, Sunshine Stars' goalie, Emmanuel Ofori, saved a penalty before an unmarked Shola Abdulraheem put the ball into the top corner to extend the hosts' lead in the 73rd minute.
Sunshine Stars will next host Nasarawa United at Otunba Dipo Dina Stadium in Ijebu-Ode for a Week 8 match of the league.
