2024/2025 NPFL Match Day 6: Remo Stars decimate Nasarawa United

Posted : 14 October 2024

Remo Stars has regained the leadership of the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) after a superlative 3-0 win over Nasarawa United FC in Ikenne.

The Sky Blue Stars, who were without their Technical Adviser, Daniel Ogunmodede, who was away on national assignment with the Super Eagles of Nigeria, showed no mercy to the visitors, the Solid Miners, scoring three goals against them.

The exciting match, part of NPFL Match Day 6, was played at the Remo Stars International Stadium in Ikenne.

This victory saw the Sky Blues return to the top of the table with 15 points, leaving no doubt about their superiority over the Solid Miners.

Remo Stars, determined and dominant in possession right from the first whistle, showcased their intent.

However, it was in the second half that the Sky Blues turned up the heat, proving why they are a force to be reckoned with this season.

Veteran striker Sikiru Alimi broke the deadlock in the 50th minute, skillfully guiding the ball past the Nasarawa goalkeeper to give the home side the lead. The goal sent the fans into a frenzy, and it was clear that more was to come.

Just nine minutes later, Stanley Joseph doubled the lead with a clinical finish, capitalizing on a defensive error from the visitors.

The Solid Miners, struggling to keep up with the pace and intensity of the Sky Blues, conceded again in the 62nd minute when Ismail Sodiq found the back of the net with a powerful strike, sealing the game and extinguishing any hopes of a comeback for Nasarawa United.

By the end of the match, it was evident that the teams were operating on completely different levels.

Remo Stars’ dominant performance led to confident statements from the players. “We are not equals,” said Alimi after the match. “Today, we showed them who the better team is.”

The win puts Remo Stars back at the summit of the NPFL table, reaffirming their title ambitions. As the season progresses, the Sky Blues will be a team to watch, while Nasarawa United will need to regroup after this humbling defeat.
