2024/2025 NPFL Match Day 5: Kano Pillars set to unleash Super Eagles Captain, Musa on Sunshine Stars

Posted : 06 October 2024

As three-time league winners, Kano Pillars FC welcomes Sunshine Stars FC for the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 5. The Sai Masu Gida is set to unleash Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa on the visiting Sunshine Stars FC.

Musa is poised to make his third debut for the former champions Kano Pillars as they host Sunshine Stars in the NPFL Match Day 5 fixture at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina on Sunday.

Musa, alongside fellow Nigerian midfielder Shehu Abdullahi, has rejoined the Sai Masu Gida on short-term contracts for the 2024/25 season.

Both players were spotted training with the team on Thursday in preparation for their clash against the Owena Waves.

“Ahmed Musa, Shehu Abdullahi, Nazir Laja, and the rest of the squad trained ahead of the NPFL 2024/25 Match Day 5 clash against Sunshine Stars this weekend,” the club announced via X on Friday.

With only one win from their opening four games, leaving them in 14th place with four points, Musa and Abdullahi’s presence is seen as a significant boost for coach Usman Abadallah’s squad.

Musa returns to Pillars for a third stint, having previously played for the club from 2009 to 2021. His first tenure was particularly notable; he finished as the league’s top scorer with 18 goals in his debut season before moving to VVV Venlo in the Dutch Eredivisie.

Abdullahi, meanwhile, will be playing for Pillars for the second time, having first joined them in 2012. He has been without a club since January 2023, while Musa terminated his contract with Turkish club Sivasspor in February.

Despite the closure of the NPFL 2024/25 summer transfer window, both players joined the squad as free agents.

Sunday Obaseki, head of competitions for the NPFL, confirmed that Musa’s registration would not be an issue. “Yes, he can be registered. Ahmed Musa will be on the Transfer Matching System, so he won’t have a problem,” Obaseki stated.

Before Musa’s return to Pillars, champions Rangers International had shown interest in signing the Super Eagles captain.

Musa’s illustrious career has seen him play for prominent clubs such as CSKA Moscow and Leicester City, as well as a stint in Saudi Arabia with Al Nassr. His rejoining of Kano Pillars adds an exciting chapter to his already storied career.
