A winless Heartland International FC finally earned their first win of the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season with an emphatic 2-0 victory over visiting Niger Tornadoes of Minna on Sunday.
This was also the first win for Coach Emmanuel Amuneke as an NPFL manager. Heartland secured the victory thanks to a brace from Michael Ogu.
New signing Ogu opened his goal account in the 20th minute, receiving a through pass from Adoh Frank's cross and heading the ball into the net.
The Amuneke-led side was forced to make a substitution in the 28th minute when Promise Anyanwu appeared to be struggling with an injury. He was replaced by Chukwuma Agor.
The Naze Millionaires had a scare in the 32nd minute when a lack of communication between goalkeeper Ebuka Nwokoecha and Christian Molokwu almost led to an equalizer. However, Molokwu managed to kick the ball out for a corner kick.
Ogu completed his brace in the 60th minute, increasing the score to 2-0. Surajudeen Lawal replaced Ogu, whose goals had handed his team their first win of the season. His exit was met with thunderous applause from the stands.
The Naze Millionaires ultimately secured a well-deserved 2-0 victory.
