Nasarawa United bounced back from last weekend's home defeat to El-Kanemi Warriors to secure a hard-earned 2-1 victory over Ikorodu City FC at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Lagos, on Saturday afternoon.
The Solid Miners dominated much of the first half, with Anas Yusuf scoring in the 44th minute to take his goal tally to five in four games. ThankGod Chilaka equalized three minutes into added time, sending both sides into the interval level.
Despite James Faith's incredible goalkeeping display for Ikorodu City, Nasarawa United sealed the win with a superbly struck free-kick by right-back Kabir Balogun in the 64th minute. The goal sent the visitors into a frenzy, including Nasarawa State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Jafaru Ango, and State Football Association Chairman, Salisu Galadima 'Basira,' who joined the Solomon Babanjah-led management board of the club to cheer the team to victory.
This electrifying game proved Nasarawa United's resilience and determination to secure their first league win of the season after three previous failed attempts.
The Solid Miners' heartwarming victory moves them to 6th place on the league table with five points, while Ikorodu City remains at the bottom with one point from four games.
Bayelsa United will be Nasarawa United's next opponents on Sunday, Oct. 6, at the Lafia City Stadium.
The Technical Adviser of Nasarawa United FC said: "I am incredibly proud of the team's performance today. We showed character and resilience to secure this first win of the season. The energy was electric as every member of the team contributed to this win, and we can't wait to build on this momentum!"
