2024/2025 NPFL Match Day 34: Nasarawa United FC halts Bendel Insurance FC's winning streak

Posted : 21 April 2025

The Solid Miners displayed exceptional resilience and determination on Sunday against hosts Bendel Insurance in a hard-fought 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League Matchday 34 clash at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin, Edo State, securing a crucial point against the Benin Arsenal.

The game, which began with high intensity, saw both sides create a litany of goal-scoring opportunities and adjust their formations to gain the upper hand, but it ultimately ended in a draw at full time.

Nasarawa United’s counter-attacking strategy paid off, catching the hosts off guard as Abubakar Garba slotted the ball home in the 42nd minute.

The hosts, however, responded with confidence in the 70th minute, courtesy of Michael Enaruna, leveling the score at 1-1.

Further efforts from both sides failed to alter the scoreline, and the points were shared.

Sunday’s result reaffirms Nasarawa United’s determination to remain afloat in the Premier League, despite a shaky start to the current campaign. They are now placed 15th on the log with 43 points from 34 games.

The team will next host Heartland FC at their newly adopted home ground, Pantami Stadium in Gombe, on Sunday, 27th April, 2025.

In a related development, a staunch supporter of Nasarawa United, Peter Anyebe Pepsy, rewarded the team with the sum of One Hundred Thousand Naira for their commendable result away against Bendel Insurance on Sunday evening.

Mr. Peter congratulated the team on the achievement and challenged them to maintain the momentum in the remaining games of the season.

Nasarawa United coach Salisu Yusuf said: “This is a vital away point for my team. They have really done well.

“Insurance gave us a great match—very competitive—but we ended up with a draw, despite creating lots of chances.”

Bendel Insurance coach Greg Ikhenoba also commented: “This is not what we bargained for—but sometimes you lose, and other times you win.

“We lost our last game on the road, and today we were held to a draw at home—such is football.”
