2024/2025 NPFL Match Day 34: Abia Warriors aim to consolidate Top 3 grip in Katsina

Having outclassed their South-South neighbours, Rivers United Football Club of Port Harcourt, in a pulsating encounter over the weekend, Abia Warriors Football Club of Umuahia have set their sights on another crucial fixture in the Nigerian top flight—one that could significantly shape their continental aspirations.


A trip to Katsina State to face struggling Katsina United in the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 34 is a fixture in which the Umu Chineke Boys will need to be at their best if they are to emerge unscathed, given that the hosts will be desperate for victory to improve their chances of survival in the Premier League.


With that in mind, the Imama Amapakabo-tutored side will rely on their recent impressive form—which has seen them win four of their last five matches—to fight for the maximum points, knowing that any slip could hand fourth-placed Ikorodu City an unwanted advantage as the race for continental qualification remains open.


The Warriors' gaffer was modest in his response when asked about his team’s chances of finishing in the top three during the post-match conference following the clash between Abia Warriors and Rivers United at the Umuahia Township Stadium.


“If league leaders, Remo Stars, don’t win any of their remaining five games and any of us among ourselves and other contenders win all five, it could change the picture completely. This is football—the beauty of it—anything can happen.


“So, like I always say, today is gone. We'll just put that under our belt; the celebration stops here. We have to look ahead to our next game and try to move as fast as we possibly can to get the results that will keep us where we want to be.”


The Warriors currently sit third on the log with 53 points, twelve points ahead of 17th-placed Katsina United, who are on 41 points.
