2024/2025 NPFL Match Day 32: Lobi Stars show resilience in 1-1 draw against Sunshine Stars in Enugu

Posted : 07 April 2025

Lobi Stars demonstrated unwavering determination as they settled for a 1-1 draw against visiting Sunshine Stars of Akure in their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 32 encounter, held at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.

The game commenced with high expectations for the Makurdi-based side, but those hopes were quickly tested when Ahmadu Liman opened the scoring for the visitors in the 9th minute.

The Sunshine Stars forward capitalized on his team’s first real opportunity with a composed close-range finish.

Lobi Stars responded with attacking intent, dominating possession and forcing several set-piece situations.

Their efforts appeared to have paid off in the 27th minute when they were awarded a penalty after Okafor Onyekachi’s goal-bound shot was handled by a Sunshine defender.

However, Onyekachi’s subsequent spot-kick was saved by the goalkeeper, keeping the visitors in front at the break.

Coach Tony Bolus introduced Alex Oche for Samuel Tiza in the second half, a move that soon made an impact.

In the 55th minute, Johnmark Aule calmly slotted home from close range after a well-timed pass from Onyekachi, bringing Lobi Stars back on level terms.

Lobi Stars pressed forward in search of a winner, but despite their dominance in the attacking third, they were unable to convert further chances.

The momentum was briefly halted when goalkeeper Itodo Akor was shown a red card for allegedly handling the ball outside the area, a moment that left Lobi Stars with ten men for the remainder of the game.

At full-time, the points were shared, a result that left Lobi Stars slightly frustrated given their overall performance.

Speaking after the match, Coach Tony Bolus expressed confidence in his squad’s performance and assured supporters that the team remains focused on retaining its top-flight status.

Lobi Stars will next face Remo Stars in a rescheduled Matchday 30 clash midweek at the same venue in Enugu.
