What could have been a beautiful ending to the Southwest derby in the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) was marred by violence as protesting fans, dissatisfied with the 0-0 draw between Shooting Stars and the visiting Ikorodu City FC, clashed.
Fans of the Oluyole Warriors of Ibadan expressed their disappointment after the club failed to secure all three points against Ikorodu City FC.
Ikorodu City held the Oluyole Warriors to a goalless draw during the NPFL Match Day 32 on Sunday at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Ibadan.
Despite several chances and a dominant second-half performance from 3SC, Ikorodu City FC defended resolutely to earn a hard-fought point from the match.
Head coach Gbenga Ogunbote made tactical changes, bringing on Anthony Okachi for Samuel Ayanrinde and Goodwin Odibo for Joshua Akpan, among others.
The substitutions had little impact as 3SC pressed late on, aiming to reward their loyal fans with a last-minute winning goal.
Ikorodu City’s goalkeeper, Oluwadamilare Aina, made crucial saves and was later booked by the referee for time-wasting in the dying moments.
The result keeps 3SC in fourth place on the NPFL table with 48 points from 32 matches played so far.
