In what can be described as a gallant display, Premier League debutants Ikorodu City FC ran riot on Thursday with a harvest of goals as they whitewashed visiting Katsina United FC 6-0 in the rescheduled 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 31, played at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena.
The Oga Boys had to put the weekend’s horror behind them as they unleashed a flurry of goals on the visitors, the Changi Boys.
Ikorodu City FC had endured a torrid experience in Ibadan after a goalless draw against Shooting Stars FC—a result that didn’t sit well with the home fans, who vented their anger on the team, leaving players and officials with bodily injuries.
However, the incident didn’t deter the team. Captain Waliu Ojetoye became a thorn in the flesh of the Changi Boys, contributing to three of the goals scored. His assists set a new record as he became the second Ikorodu City player to provide three assists in an NPFL match this season, after Harrison Uzondu's treble against Lobi Stars on Match Day 8.
It didn’t take long for Ikorodu City to stamp their authority on the game. Emmanuel Solomon broke the deadlock with a composed finish from Waliu’s precise cross to get the ball rolling.
Shortly after, Shola Adelani etched his name into the club’s record books with a well-placed header—his 10th league goal of the season—making him the first player in Ikorodu City’s history to hit double digits.
With 12 goal contributions this season (10 goals and 2 assists), Shola has evolved into the heartbeat of Ikorodu’s attacking play.
His positioning, timing, and hunger for goals lifted both the crowd and his team to another level.
This came after Emmanuel Solomon had opened the floodgates with a confidence-boosting goal for the hosts.
It was a brilliantly executed move—Waliu burst down the right flank and whipped in a low cross that Solomon calmly finished at the heart of the box.
Ayomide Cole created the third goal with a clever move and a pinpoint assist for Oyedokun Tosin.
Then came his own first strike—burying Waliu’s delivery into the bottom corner in the 77th minute.
But it was his second goal that sealed his star performance: an 87th-minute thunderbolt, powered in with solo brilliance to complete his brace.
Oladimeji Dada also joined the party, tapping in a back-post cross to make it 5-0—his first goal in the colours of Ikorodu City—after meeting yet another delightful delivery from Waliu.
Katsina United had no answers, and by the final whistle, they looked like a team begging for mercy.
Following this impressive performance, Ikorodu City became the first side to score six goals in an NPFL match since Rivers United did so against Gombe United in June 2024.
