2024/2025 NPFL Match Day 31: Eguma condemns Enyimba FC's lack of cutting-edge performanace

Posted : 28 March 2025

The Technical Adviser of nine-time league champions, Enyimba International FC, has blamed a lack of cutting edge for his side's 0-2 loss to league leaders Remo Stars FC at the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 31.

Recall that the People's Elephant's impressive five-game unbeaten run came to an end on Thursday as Remo Stars secured a 2-0 victory in a high-stakes clash at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne.

Despite creating multiple chances, the defending champions paid dearly for their wastefulness in front of goal.

Adebayo Olamilakan’s opener in the 28th minute set the tone before Samson Olasupo doubled the lead in the 67th minute, delivering a serious blow to Enyimba’s hopes of climbing the table.

The People’s Elephant struggled to convert opportunities, with Christian Nnaji and Mujeeb Odufeso missing key chances.

Speaking after the game, Enyimba head coach Stanley Eguma did not hold back his disappointment, admitting his side only had themselves to blame for the defeat against Remo Stars.

“It wasn’t the result we hoped for. We came here with a game plan to, at worst, pick a point, but it turned out otherwise. We had the chances to score before their goal came, but our inability to convert our chances was our downfall today.

“If we had converted ours, we could have even scored three goals today,” Eguma claimed.

“We have to go back and work on our conversion rate because, at this stage in the league, you can’t afford to make such mistakes.

“We will keep playing, taking it one match at a time. It’s football—you never know what can happen. We will keep fighting until it’s over,” Eguma added.
