2024/2025 NPFL Match Day 30: alleged violence rocks Shooting Stars' match against Niger Tornadoes

Posted : 24 March 2025

Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan on Sunday moved up from sixth to fourth place with 46 points after defeating visiting Niger Tornadoes FC of Minna 3-1 at the Lekan Salami Stadium.

Ayodeji Bamidele gave the hosts the lead in the 38th minute with a thumping header at the far post following a William Ukeme corner kick from the right side.

Five minutes later, Anthony Okachi doubled their lead from the penalty spot after an infringement on a teammate.

Sunday Williams reduced the deficit in the 66th minute, giving the visitors hope of a possible comeback.

However, Samuel Okon curled in a free kick from about 25 meters out on the right side in the 79th minute, extinguishing the visitors’ hopes and securing the win.

A disturbing incident occurred before the match between Shooting Stars and Niger Tornadoes, as Niger Tornadoes' head coach, Majin Mohammed, allegedly punched Shooting Stars' goalkeeper trainer, John Dosu.

The altercation began when the Niger Tornadoes coach attempted to access Shooting Stars' half of the pitch. Dosu denied him entry, leading to a heated exchange.

In a shocking turn of events, the coach punched Dosu, leaving him bleeding.

Fans condemned the incident, calling it unacceptable and demanding immediate action from the NPFL Board.

"We condemn any form of violence in sports and call for a thorough investigation into this matter," a fan said.
