2024/2025 NPFL Match Day 29: Rivers United FC silence El-Kanemi Warriors

It was a relief for the Finidi George-tutored Rivers United FC on Sunday as they ground out the much-needed 2-1 victory over the visiting El-Kanemi Warriors FC of Maiduguri.


The hard-fought 2-1 win in the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 29 against El-Kanemi Warriors means that Rivers United has managed to maintain second place on the NPFL log.


The Pride of Rivers took the lead early in the second half, with Taofeek Olaniyi scoring in the 47th minute, before Samson Obi doubled their lead at the hour mark.


Despite a late consolation goal in the 90th minute, the visitors held on to claim the maximum points at the El-Kanemi Sports Complex, maintaining their second position on the table.


With the continental slot within reach, the Pride of Rivers have earned 49 points from 13 wins, 10 draws, and 6 losses.


Rivers United's coach, Finidi George, in an interview, expressed his hope that his side would continue and maintain the winning streak.
