Bayelsa United FC on Sunday compounded the woes of struggling Lobi Stars FC with a slim 1-0 win in the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 29 fixture.
Lobi Stars FC, having appointed a new coach, Tony Bolus, to steer the team, saw the first match under his watch end in a grueling 1-0 loss in Bayelsa.
The Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa dealt a hefty blow to manager Tony Bolus, who endured a rough start as his side remained rooted to the bottom of the table with just 23 points.
Prosperity Boys midfielder Magbisa Wisdom scored the only goal of the fixture in the 55th minute, delivering a painful blow to the Alia Boys.
Throughout the match, Bolus and his men tried to level the score, but a more decisive defense curtailed their attacking efforts.
Speaking after the match, Bolus said he sees redemption in the team despite their struggles.
"Don't write us off just yet. We will rise again as we still have more games to determine who goes down to the lower league," he said.
