The skipper of Abia Warriors Football Club of Umuahia, Augustine Njoku, has returned to action following the hamstring injury he sustained three weeks ago during the Matchday 25 league game against reigning champions Enugu Rangers in Umuahia.
Njoku was seen training separately from the Warriors squad, ostensibly working on his fitness and full recovery.
The Warriors' captain, while speaking with the club's media, expressed his delight and gratitude to God for his speedy recovery.
"I feel very good. You know, being out of the team for some weeks now, coming back to training, I feel very, very good, and I'm happy for that."
"I'm not feeling any pain in my hamstring anymore, so it's a good thing. I really thank God for having recovered so quickly. I can say all glory to God Almighty."
The former Nigeria U-20 international also shared his thoughts on the upcoming league game between Abia Warriors and Bendel Insurance, expressing optimism in the Warriors' ability to secure the maximum points, even as he expects a fight from the Benin Arsenals.
"Bendel Insurance has improved lately, and we got the maximum points at their home in Benin in the first round. I know they will come with everything to see if they can get a point here in Umuahia."
"As I always say, no game is alike. I believe we're going to return to victory again, using the Bendel Insurance game on Sunday as a key start to our return to victory."
Njoku's optimism stems from the training regimen under Coach Imama Amapakabo and his technical crew since his return.
"Since I came back, I've seen the coaches trying their best to put us in shape. I believe, with God on our side, we'll get the maximum points on Sunday," Njoku stated.
He further added, "I believe, from the work I've seen our coaches put in this week, and equally from the work I’ve seen the players do, Abia Warriors Football Club of Umuahia is returning to winning ways, and that’s for sure."
Njoku's return is a welcome development for Umu Chineke and a confidence booster for the team as they resume their quest for a top-three finish, starting with the game against Bendel Insurance on Sunday.
