There is an uneasy calm and self-appraisal in the camp of Bendel Insurance Football Club as they surrendered all three points to their struggling hosts, Bayelsa United, in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 27 at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa on Sunday evening.
The relegation-threatened side, led by Ladan Bosso, came from behind to snatch the three points with a 2-1 victory over the resurgent Benin Arsenals.
Bendel Insurance approached the game with confidence and zeal, proving their mettle in the first half, with Kayode Oke giving them the lead in the 36th minute.
Emo James equalized for the hosts in the 2nd minute of the three minutes of added time before halftime, taking advantage of a scramble in the box.
Substitute Bina Tombiri sealed the victory for the hosts in the 69th minute with a close-range tap-in.
Recall that Bendel Insurance FC thrashed Bayelsa United 3-0 in their first-round meeting in 2024.
Insurance came into the game with 38 points and were 8th on the table, while Bayelsa United sat in 17th place.
The Benin Arsenals will host table-toppers Remo Stars in their next fixture.
In a post-match interview, the head coach of Bendel Insurance FC, Greg Ikhenoba, said he was grateful to God for the significant progress his side has made despite the loss to Bayelsa United.
"Like I always say, I give thanks to God in every situation. The game has been played, and we didn't get what we planned to get.
"Honestly, we planned and hoped to win here, but our plan didn't work out well. We missed a lot of chances in the first half. We are a work in progress, and we will continue to improve."
Coach Ikhenoba expressed confidence that his side would bounce back to winning ways.
