Abia Warriors were held to a 1-1 draw by visiting Nasarawa United Football Club of Lafia in the Matchday 27 fixture of the ongoing 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
The two goals were scored in the first 45 minutes of the encounter as both sides shared the spoils at the Umuahia Township Stadium.
Abia Warriors' Technical Adviser, Imama Amapakabo, made two changes to the squad that was held to a goalless draw at the Kwara State Stadium, Ilorin, in the last league fixture, with goalkeeper Sharp Uzoigwe and Wilson Elu replacing the injured Nmecha Johnson and Innocent Godwin, respectively.
Sunday Megwo netted his eighth league goal of the campaign in the 35th minute after a nice combination with strike partner Anthony Ijoma, giving Umu Chineke the advantage.
But the Warriors failed to hold onto their lead, which lasted just five minutes before Garba Mohammed ghosted in from the flank to level the scores.
It was 1-1 at the end of the first half, and the second period saw the visitors go ultra-defensive, thwarting all the home side's efforts.
Nonetheless, the Warriors had the chance to take the lead in the 55th minute when Sunday Megwo was at the receiving end of Ayodele Ezekiel's delivery. With the goalkeeper at his mercy, the forward uncharacteristically mis-cued his kick.
Despite late substitutions from the Warriors' bench, the visitors defended resolutely to earn a draw.
Up next for the Warriors is a tie against Plateau United in Jos.
