2024/2025 NPFL Match Day 27: Kano Pillars FC set to ambush Rangers International FC

Kano Pillars will play their second consecutive home game after a narrow 1-0 win over Akwa United at the Sani Abacha Stadium, courtesy of a late Rabiu Ali penalty.

However, they must be wary of Rangers, who scored three goals past Sunshine Stars in midweek, reinforcing their desire to retain their title.

The defending champions, the Flying Antelopes, will travel to Kano to face Sai Masu Gida at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar Mata, for the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 27.

Ahmed Musa’s return from injury is a boost for Pillars, as they will need his experience. However, Rangers' attack has been clicking in the latter stages of the season, and they will hope to replicate their form against Sunshine Stars in Kano.

For the Flying Antelopes, it will be a continued push for a continental slot, as they aim to dislodge Shooting Stars SC and Rivers United FC from second place in the NPFL standings.

This time, the Flying Antelopes will also be seeking revenge for the 2024/2025 NPFL Match Day 7 encounter, in which Kano Pillars secured their first away win of the season at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu, dealing a blow to Rangers International’s title challenge.

Kano Pillars were at their best against the Flying Antelopes, racing to a 4-0 first-half lead, leaving Rangers’ head coach, Fidelis Ilechukwu, stunned.

Rabiu Ali opened the scoring for the visitors in the 19th minute from the penalty spot, while Rabiu Muhammed Zulkifilu doubled the lead 10 minutes later. Ali then secured his brace in the 41st minute, once again from the penalty spot, before Ahmed Musa added the finishing touch in the 45th minute.

However, Isaac Saviour scored a quick-fire double in the 46th and 59th minutes for the home side, raising hopes of a comeback. They managed to add one more goal in the 90th minute, but the match ended 4-3, with Sai Masu Gida having the last laugh on the Flying Antelopes’ home turf.
