Kano Pillars FC secured back-to-back victories over the defending league champions, Rangers International FC, in the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 27 on Sunday.
The match, played at a packed Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar Mata in Kano, saw the home side secure an entertaining 2-1 win over the defending champions, the Flying Antelopes.
Match Day 27 was attended by Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle, who was in Kano to watch Ahmed Musa in action for Kano Pillars in their high-profile NPFL match against Rangers International FC.
Recall that Sai Masu Gida had earlier thrashed the Flying Antelopes in a seven-goal thriller during the 2024/2025 NPFL Match Day 7.
Kano Pillars' win in that game was their first away victory of the season, achieved at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu against Rangers International.
Sai Masu Gida were at their best against the Flying Antelopes, racing to a 4-0 first-half lead, much to the surprise of Rangers' head coach, Fidelis Ilechukwu.
Rabiu Ali opened the scoring for the visitors in the 19th minute from the penalty spot, while Rabiu Muhammed Zulkifilu doubled the lead 10 minutes later.
Ali secured his brace in the 41st minute with another penalty before Ahmed Musa added the icing on the cake in the 45th minute.
However, Isaac Saviour sparked hopes of a comeback for the home side with a quick-fire double in the 46th and 59th minutes. Rangers managed to add another goal in the 90th minute, but the game ended 4-3, with Sai Masu Gida having the last laugh on the Flying Antelopes’ home ground.
In the reverse NPFL Match Day 27 fixture, Rabiu Ali and Jerry Alex helped Kano Pillars secure back-to-back wins against Enugu Rangers at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar Mata.
However, Rangers International FC struck first, courtesy of a brilliant penalty converted by Usman.
Sai Masu Gida responded with their own penalty in the 42nd minute, successfully converted by veteran midfielder Rabiu Ali.
Kano Pillars then sealed the victory in the 60th minute, with Alex scoring a brilliant goal to put the icing on the cake.
