2024/2025 NPFL Match Day 26: Ten-Man El-Kanemi grinds stalemate in Owerri against Heartland FC

Ten-man El-Kanemi Warriors FC on Wednesday ground out a 1-1 draw against a lackluster Heartland International FC in the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 26 fixture.  


The match, played at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri, saw the Naze Millionaires ease off the pressure, while a more determined Desert Warriors side, still frustrated from their home draw against title-chasing Shooting Stars, took the fight to them.  


The first half ended goalless, but Heartland International FC's Chukwuma Agor broke the deadlock in the 61st minute.  


However, the game took a dramatic turn in the 86th minute when Umar Al Amin was sent off after receiving a second yellow card.  


Deep into stoppage time, Desert Warriors' Risilanu Ismail equalized in the 92nd minute to secure a crucial point for his team.  


Speaking after the match, El-Kanemi Warriors coach Muniru Abdulazeez stated that his team deserved the away point.  


"We came with the mentality of securing an outright win, but at least getting a draw is not bad if we can't win.  


"We needed to make up for the goalless draw at home against 3SC. Losing points against Heartland FC would not have been good for the team, which is why we fought hard to secure this result. Honestly, we were stretched to the limit.  


"We had an outstanding performance today, and we will go back home to build on that," he said.
