Abia Warriors left the Kwara State Stadium unscathed after being held to a goalless draw by Kwara United Football Club in the Matchday 26 fixture of the ongoing Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
The match lived up to expectations, delivering a thrilling, intriguing, and entertaining contest, but neither side could find the back of the net as both teams struggled in the final third.
Abia Warriors' gaffer, Imama Amapakabo, made two changes to the side that defeated reigning champions Enugu Rangers in their last game, with Samuel Atavti and Innocent Godwin replacing captain Augustine Njoku and Wilson Elu, respectively.
The match began cautiously but soon turned into a typical NPFL clash with both teams exchanging attacking moves.
It ended 0-0 at halftime, but the Warriors controlled proceedings in the early stages of the second half.
The hosts, however, relied on occasional counterattacks and trickery in an attempt to break down the Warriors' defense, but the visitors remained resolute.
A tense moment arose for the Warriors in the 49th minute when goalkeeper Nmecha Johnson was accidentally hit by a stray foot after making a routine save. He received medical attention before being replaced by Sharp Uzoigwe.
Buoyed by vocal support from the home crowd, Kwara United intensified their attacks in the closing stages after multiple substitutions led by former Abia Warriors assistant coach Tunde Sani. However, the Warriors held firm to secure a hard-fought draw in a pulsating encounter.
Up next for the Warriors is a home fixture against Nasarawa United at the Umuahia Township Stadium on Sunday, March 2, 2025.
